South Winds Apartment Community
RENU Communities (RENU) works to decarbonize the built environment by delivering turnkey energy retrofits. Built in 1972, the South Winds Apartment Community has been home to many residents in Fall River, Massachusetts, an established city just south of Boston. The garden-style property has 27 three-story buildings with 404 tenant units. After enduring years of comfort issues thanks to outdated equipment, ownership knew it was time for an energy efficiency overhaul. RENU’s high-performance heating and cooling selection: Mitsubishi Electric’s M-Series Deluxe Wall-mounted System with H2i plus® technology.
Little Residence
As an educator and advocate for sustainable homes, Brett Little uses his house’s retrofit to demonstrate how millions of Americans could live in healthy, low-carbon homes with upgrades paid for through mortgage refinancing, construction financing and home equity lines. Little increased his monthly mortgage by $40 to pay for improvements like replacing his malfunctioning gas furnace with a ducted air source heat pump from Mitsubishi Electric. All-electric heating was essential as the retrofit’s green design eliminated the hazards and costs of gas lines and combustion.
Wadsworth Home
Justin Wadsworth, along with his wife and two children, moved into their new home in New Paltz, New York in June 2022. A self-described “IT guy” with a passion for innovation, living in a home with sustainable, energy-efficient systems has long been his goal. After moving in, one of his first to-dos was decommissioning the home’s existing oil boiler and centralized ducted HVAC system and upgrading to an all-electric, variable capacity heat pump system from Mitsubishi Electric.

Franklin Park Middle School
Franklin Park Middle School in Salem, Illinois, opened in 1980 and spans 82,398 square feet across two buildings. By 2021, four decades of use left many of the school’s facilities needing major renovations. Improvements would include expanded classroom space, a new parking lot, window replacements and, most significantly, an upgraded heating and cooling system to replace the outdated and inefficient system.
Journey Church International
Journey Church International (JCI) is a contemporary Christian church serving communities within the Kansas City metropolitan area. Their original building initially served staff and worshippers well but with services and activities nearly every day of the week, leadership knew it was time to expand.
When planning a 52,000-square-foot addition, JCI wanted to ensure the systems in place would promote efficiency. With hundreds of people in and out of the building each week, their heating and cooling selection was very important. After consulting with the team at PM Contracting, Inc., the choice was clear: CITY MULTI® Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) technology.
Capitol Seniors Housing
Based in Washington, DC, Capitol Seniors Housing (CSH) has developed or acquired more than 120 senior housing communities nationwide and deployed over $2.5 billion of investment capital. The firm specializes in the design, development, financing and operation of state-of-the-art senior living communities and has earned a reputation for comfortable, safe, resident-centered life experiences for older adults. CSH has used CITY MULTI® Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) zoning systems from Mitsubishi Electric to maximize year-round comfort and improve net operating income (NOI) at several facilities since 2016.
Ontonagon Village Housing
After years of enduring expensive and uncomfortable electric-resistance heat, Michigan’s Ontonagon Village Housing, a subsidized housing facility, started the search for an alternative HVAC option. Having considered bringing in a gas pipeline to the town, the housing commission ultimately made the sustainable, comfortable and more cost-effective choice: mini-split heat pump systems from Mitsubishi Electric!
